Keeping up with the Koreans: state looks to boost broadband penetration to 40%

Malaysia’s Communications Ministry has upped its broadband penetration target from 10% by 2008 to 30%-40%, with Minister Lim Keng Yaik calling for proposals from telcos and the country’s Multimedia Commission to radically boost the spread of high speed services, including the use of wireless technologies. The minister said this week that Malaysia, with a broadband penetration of around 1%, is ten years behind South Korea, where penetration is over 60%.
