Smartcom aims to boost top-end handset sales

Chilean cellco Smartcom is launching a range of new value added services aimed at doubling the sales of high-end mobile phones this year, and trebling them in 2006. The new applications, offered through Nokia’s Preminent platform, offer varied content downloads and Java games. Only 5% of Smartcom’s subscribers own a high-end handset, mainly due to high prices, but value added services already make up 10% of the company’s total revenues.
