Hutch wants to stick with 2G for five more years
Hutchison Whampoa has urged the Office of the Telecommunications Authority (OFTA) to extend its mobile licence for a further five years following plans by the regulator to recall the concession and offer it instead to a fifth 3G operator. OFTA says that Hutchison’s 2G CDMA network is under-utilising the spectrum and has proposed not renewing its licence when it expires next year.
