Russia allows Abkhazia to use its dialling code
Russia has granted the breakaway territory of Abkhazia the right to use its international dialling code, and has assigned a separate area code to the region, writes EurasiaNes, citing news agency Interfax. Under the 28 September agreement signed by Moscow and Sukhumi, Abkhazia will drop Georgia’s 995 dialling code and replace it with 7, the code used by Russia, followed by the area code 840. Meanwhile, Rustavi-2 television station reports that the Georgian National Communications Commission (GNCC) has said it will dispute the decision with the International Telecommunications Union (ITU).
