Iraqna goes live

Orascom of Egypt and US-based Motorola have completed the rollout of Orascom’s Iraqi GSM network on time, launching commercial services in Baghdad under the brand name Iraqna on 5 February. The network, which is operated by Orascom Telecom Holding’s 63%-owned subsidiary Orascom Telecom Iraq (OTI), comprises 36 sites equipped with Motorola’s GSM Horizon macro base station terminals. It is one of three regional systems being installed in Iraq which, upon completion, will form the basis of the country’s first national mobile telecoms network.
