MIRS and 012.Smile in WiMAX collaboration talks
According to Globes Online, Israeli cellco MIRS Communications is in negotiations with 012.Smile Communications regarding the setup of a joint WiMAX network. MIRS, which in July 2008 received permission to launch trial WiMAX networks in Tel Aviv and Askelon, has previously indicated it is looking for a partner for mobile WiMAX services. 012.Smile has however said that it is uncertain about the feasibility of a nationwide WiMAX deployment, and may prefer a more limited infrastructure. Both operators are still awaiting a decision from the Ministry of Communications (MoC) regarding an auction date for WiMAX frequencies. According to TeleGeography’s GlobalComms database the MoC has been considering options to auction WiMAX spectrum since February 2007.
