BPL set to expand services in Mumbai

Telecom Tiger is reporting that Indian mobile operator BPL Mobile will expand its services in its sole circle of operation, Mumbai. The cellco has announced plans to increase its subscriber base by one million, targeting a total of two million customers by the end of March 2009; according to TeleGeography’s GlobalComms database, the operator had approximately 1.38 million subscribers at the end of June 2008. In order to achieve its goals BPL plans to increase its tower sites by 500 to bring its total to 1,800, having set aside INR1 billion (USD20.5 million) for the expansion.
