WiMAX venture to be ready this year

Clearwire’s chief financial officer, John Butler, says his company is on track to complete its merger with the WiMAX operations of Sprint Nextel before the end of this year. Butler says he is pleased with the progress towards regulatory approval, despite objections to the tie-up being raised by rival AT&T, Dow Jones reports. Clearwire and Sprint are teaming up with partners such as Google, Intel, Time Warner Cable and Comcast to create a national WiMAX network which will operate under the Clearwire name. Sprint is due to launch its first WiMAX network later this month, with Clearwire also close to its first commercial switch-ons.
