O2 exceeds coverage requirements

Telefonica O2 Slovakia has announced that its GSM mobile network, which it launched in August 2007, now covers 88% of the Slovakian population via 800 base station transceivers (BTSs), up from 38% at the end of January and far exceeding its licence stipulation of 45% coverage in its first year of operation. The cellco’s chief network officer, Martin Skop, said: ‘We want to provide our customers with services of the highest quality. Building our own network is the company’s long-term strategic objective and its building is constantly continuing. Besides our own network, we will [continue to] use national roaming [via a deal with T-Mobile Slovakia].’
