MetroPCS expands PTT to fixed line

The US cellular operator MetroPCS has launched a new service which enables push-to-talk (PTT) communications between wireless and wireline users. The walkie talkie-style service was previously only available to cellular customers with a PTT-enabled handset. A deal with PTT solutions provider Kodiak means that a MetroPCS subscriber can now start a PTT conversation with any cellular or landline user. Only the call initiator must have a PTT-enabled device fitted with Kodiak’s ChatLINK software. Other users can listen to the multi-party conversation on their own phone and can press any button to speak. ChatLINK costs USD5 a month. Currently only one handset is available, the Kyocera K312, though there are plans to launch new phones, MetroPCS says.
