New BT boss mulling WiMAX

The incoming boss of BT, Ian Livingstone, is reported by the Financial Times to be looking at options to expand further into the wireless arena, an area considered by its critics as a strategic weakness. Livingston, who will take over from Ben Verwaayan as chief excutive on 1 June, told the Financial Times the company would consider investing in WiMAX, adding that BT had enjoyed a ‘great deal of success’ with Wi-Fi. British telecoms regulator Ofcom has said it will auction off frequencies in the 2.6GHz range, suitable for WiMAX, this summer.
