Batelco not happy despite reduced punishment

Bahraini incumbent Batelco has been fined BHD100,000 (USD265,000) by the Telecommunications Regulatory Authority (TRA) for failing to provide wholesale leased line services to alternative telco 2Connect. TRA director-general Alan Horne revealed that the fine had been reduced from BHD500,000 after Batelco complied with a regulatory order by beginning steps to fulfill its wholesale service obligations. However, despite the lesser fine, Batelco labeled the punishment ‘inappropriate’ and legally unjustified.
