Georgia to auction more WiMAX spectrum

News service WiMAX Day reports that the National Communications Commission (NCC) in Georgia will auction licences for 3.5GHz WiMAX spectrum on 4 April. NCC reached a decision on 5 March to auction more spectrum; the deadline for submitting applications has been set for 20 March. The initial licence fee has been set at GEL1.9 million (USD 1.2 million), and a fee of 10% is required to enter the bidding process. Last October the NCC awarded a concession for 3.5GHz spectrum to Warid Telecom Georgia (a subsidiary of Pakistan operator Warid Telecom), for which it paid GEL17 million.
