Mobile payment trials begin at Telecom Italia

Telecom Italia Mobile (TIM) says it plans to introduce cellular payment services later this year, allowing customers to make purchases, manage their bank accounts, buy travel tickets and authorise bank payments from their mobile handset. According to a report from Thomson Financial, the cellco has already begun trials of near field communication (NFC) technology, which uses high frequency transmissions to provide data exchange between devices at short ranges.
