Cellcos prepare for analogue switch-off

Starting 19 February 2008, a number of US cell phone operators including AT&T, Alltel and Verizon Wireless will begin switching off their old analogue networks in a move that could potentially affect one million US customers. The shutdown follows a 2002 decision by the FCC, designed to free up the radio spectrum and allow digital technology to be used more efficiently.
