Telecoms exempt from free trade agreement
Costa Rican president Abel Pacheco has taken a firm stand against Washington, stating that his country’s telecommunications market will not be liberalised as part of the ongoing negotiations for the Central American Free Trade Agreement (CAFTA). The possibility of opening up telecommunications as part of CAFTA has sparked a series of trade union protests in the country’s capital San Jose.
