Pipex Wireless chooses Axiom for city WiMAX installations
Axiom Systems has announced that Pipex Wireless, owned by the Pipex Group and Intel Capital, has chosen Axiom Systems to support the country's largest wholesale WiMAX access network. Pipex Wireless will use the AXIOSS suite to automate service provisioning, thus speeding up and improving accuracy within the fulfilment process. The project will roll out to major cities in the UK, starting with Manchester later this year. ‘This will be a ground-breaking telecoms project, the first commercial deployment of WiMAX in the UK, which will launch a new generation of personal broadband services for our customers,’ said a Pipex Wireless spokesperson.
Pipex Wireless was formed in April 2006 by Pipex Communications and Intel Capital to develop and roll-out a WiMAX network in the UK. It owns a national spectrum licence in the 3.6GHz to 4.2GHz frequency range, allowing it to deploy new and innovative wireless broadband services. Pipex Wireless is the first service provider in the UK to offer WiMAX using licenced spectrum and is pioneering use of the technology and its market applications for both data and voice. Pipex Wireless is working with Nokia Siemens Networks, Airspan Networks, Ericsson and the National Grid to provide WiMAX services to nomadic workers, home users, small businesses and corporate organisations.
