Yahoo Japan launches WLAN service

Yahoo Japan Corp, which is backed by Softbank Corp through its Softbank Telecom Corp subsidiary, has entered the Wi-Fi hotspot market by offering a nationwide wireless LAN (WLAN) network to its 6.3 million registered users in Japan. The company’s ‘Yahoo Wireless LAN Spot’ service will utilise the hotspot network built by Softbank Telecom Corp, which currently offers around 3,500 access points throughout the country. Many of the access points are located in cafés, railway stations and hotels.
