Cingular mobilises MySpace
The largest US cellular operator Cingular Wireless is launching a mobile version of the popular social networking site MySpace. For USD2.99 a month Cingular customers can gain access to the new mobile-enabled MySpace site to upload photos, update blogs, read and respond to e-mail and browse other users’ pages. Video capabilities are not available at launch but Cingular is expecting to introduce this in 2007. Around 30 Java-enabled handsets will support the new service initially, with another 20 models to be launched in the near future, Cingular says. Internet search engine Google recently reported that MySpace and rival social networking site Bebo were the two most frequently searched for terms in 2006, highlighting the massive popularity of such sites.
