CDMA launch date fixed

Vietnam’s newest wireless network will be launched in the middle of November 2006, Hanoi Telecom (HT) has announced. The network, the result of a joint venture between HT and Hong Kong’s Hutchison Telecom, has been built by Canadian vendor Nortel with a total investment of USD656 million. The CDMA2000 1x network, which will feature 1xEV-DO in some metropolitan areas, consists of around 800 base stations and will be the first in Vietnam to offer 3G mobile services.
