Internode launches solar-powered broadband
Adelaide-based ISP Internode says it is offering almost 100% broadband coverage to the 6,000 strong population of South Australia's Coorong District using a solar-powered microwave links alongside standard ADSL2+ technology. Internode upgraded exchanges in Coorong’s major towns Meningie, Tailem Bend, Coonalpyn and Tintinara to ADSL2+, and has built 17 microwave radio towers to offer wireless broadband access to smaller townships and on farms. Of the 17 towers, twelve are self-powered via solar power systems. The system was part funded by the regional government.
