Embarq announces first set of solo results
Embarq Corporation, Sprint Nextel’s former fixed line divison that was spun off earlier this year, has announced its first set of financial results as a stand alone company, for the three months ended 30 June 2006. In the second quarter Embarq, the fifth largest local exchange carrier in the US, reported a net operating revenue of USD1.58 billion, an increase of 3.8% on the same period of 2005. Operating income declined by 4.9% year-on-year to USD406 million. High speed internet line growth was strong during the quarter, with 72,000 new lines added to take the total to 849,000. Access lines, meanwhile declined 5.6% to 7.12 million, driven by increasing competition.
