European Union backs EUR100 million loan for telecoms development

The European Investment Bank (EIB) has offered a EUR100 million loan to expand and upgrade Syria’s poorly developed telecoms network. The project, sanctioned by the Facility for Euro-Mediterranean Investment and Partnership (FEMIP), will connect 430,000 new lines in 4,300 villages and communities using a range of copper, fibre and wireless technologies.
